Central Park Half Marathon - New York, NY - February 25, 2024

This is my 2nd year in participating in this running event. But, instead of running in the half marathon, I ended up doing the 5k instead. One reason is that I was not as well trained to do the half marathon. Both my friend and I opt for having a less grueling run and at the same time enjoy the winter visit to New York City.  The weather was crisp, tons of fellow runners heading to the start line and looking forward to starting a morning run around New York's Central Park. I love watching people and supporters taking in the occasion. People are generally friendly and show a lot camaraderie. Thankfully, I was to finish this easy 5k run in just over 30 minutes, and I could take in the rest of the morning relaxing and enjoying New York City on a Sunday.  Heading over to the Start Line  Looking back on this run, it really wasn't that bad, I feel a little guilty I didn't train to do the entire half marathon run. This running route required at least 3 laps around Central Park, ...

Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Half Marathon | 10k | 5K 2/2/2020

Last run before the Covid-19 epidemic started.  I ran the 10k that year. It was tough but I had fun as fellow runners were quite encouraging and spirited. Little did they know a pandemic was about to occur.

Fundraising Efforts for Sustainable Sports Foundation

This year I'm coming back from a right ankle injury to run in the Marin County 10k on Sunday morning, April 30th. This will be my first run of the year and the first time running in this event! As always, I try to incorporate running in an event to help raise money. In this run, I'm raising funds for the Sustainable Sports Foundation . The Sustainable Sports Foundation addresses the need to promote local athletic events that encourage a healthy lifestyle and supports the values of sustainability and giving back to the community. The Sustainable Sports Foundation donates all net proceeds to give as many children as possible from low-income families in our community the opportunity to learn to swim, and be safe in the water. Join me in my fundraising efforts by making a donation today! http://www.active.com/donate/sustainablesports/Fundraise4Edgar   Mahalo -Thanks!

Running Injury Takes Its Toll

This year has been a remarkable running year. As I trained late last year up to the beginning of April of this year, I've had nothing but free reign to push myself to go the distance. First, it was participating in a great running event in Honolulu, Hawaii in April with a good friend of mine to being accepted into a very prestigious bay area trail run in Mill Valley, California in June. But as I wind down to ease up on my running events and weekly routine runs, out of no where comes a very painful right heel that has prevented me from doing any serious runs. I tried running with the pain thinking it would go away but to no avail. Tedd and I at the Hapalua Half Marathon Expo Event Honolulu, Hawaii, April 2016 Dipsea Run , Mill Valley, June 2016 I went ahead and made an appointment to see a podiatrist, only to hear him say, just don't take the stairs at work for awhile and ease up on your distance running. Oh, and also, he says, do some stretching to alleviate t...

Accepted into my First Dipsea Run!

911. I. Got in! Check out the list! Now I'm totally committed to training and running in this world famous event scheduled for Sunday, June 12th! http://www.dipsea.org/2016/entrants2016.html The Dipsea Race: First run in 1905, the Dipsea is the oldest trail race in America. It is run every year on the second Sunday in June. The scenic 7.4 mile course from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach is considered to be one of the most beautiful courses in the world. The stairs and steep trails make it a grueling and treacherous race. And its unique handicapping system has made winners of men and women of all ages. Because of its beauty and challenge, it is a very popular event, and because of safety and environmental concerns the number of runners is limited to about 1,500. While racers enter from all over the world, the Dipsea is primarily a Northern California event and the entry process is tilted slightly to favor local contestants. http://www.dipsea.org/ Stay tuned on my results! Hapalua Half Marathon - Waikiki Beach, Hawaii 2016

I would have to say this running event wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. On the previous week, I completed a San Francisco Half Marathon. Time: 2:08. Ironically, I complete this recent run here in Waikiki by the same time. Who would have thought? The process to train for a running event is never an easy feat. But if you want to finish a run respectively, you've gotta train. The good thing is that I was in good company to be motivated. I had a friend join me in a run and it was much easier than doing it alone. A couple of days before the actual run, we both did a trial run along the elevated route to see how it was looking. It wasn't as bad. At times, you had to really begin to process the length of the race and time. Overall, the weekend festivities that lead up to this event was really fun. From the expo registration to the starting line, it was really festive! Surprisingly. Next run? Not sure what is up; I need to be ready for the next choice as training an...

Transamerica San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon 2016

I'm competing in the San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. I want to help make sure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude, but I need your support to help me reach my fundraising goal. It costs $2 million a day to operate St. Jude. Did you know that 70% of the funds come from the public? That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help! A mere $500 will help me reach my goal! Please visit my St. Jude Heroes fundraising page to make a donation. Thank you for your support! http://heroes.stjude.org/donatetoday4edgar Sincerely, Edgar Running. Fundraising. Purpose.

A Decision to Start Running

Back in the the late 1990s' I was really unhealthy. I "ran" to work, worked long hours, took on an extra job to be financially "caught up". But after awhile, it took it's toll; I wasn't able to balance a social or get to have a social life. I felt I was late in the game. So, I realized I had to settle on two things; one get back in shape and two, decide to get into my own social world (in the meantime). Luckily, I lived near a lake and always wanted to be in an outdoor setting, besides I hated being in a gym. Seeing all that sweat, no thank you. I rather look to smelling fresh air and really being in a zone for health. My first step started with a pair of tennis shoes. The shoes would do until I had enough money to get a decent pair of running shoes. My first lap around the lake was tough. It was about 5 miles. After awhile, it got easier as I lost some weight; less carrying around the lake of course. There would be rough patches through my start o...

Bikram Yoga #1 in Lieu of Running

As my training begins in 2016, I've needed to take an "easier" route to start my training; which is by doing Bikram Yoga . I've been under the weather and thought stretching exercises, poses will do the trick. This is truly a great alternative to my running. In fact, it helps with cross training. I have not done yoga in awhile, like over a a year or so. But if you haven't tried this type of yoga, take the challenge. Basically, the studio room temperature is set at around 108 degrees. Your in a room full of people dressed like they are about to hit the pool or lay out at the beach. The session is 90 minutes long, in that time you will work on completing 26 poses. The instructor is very good in guiding you throughout the poses, by encouraging and motivating you. Not bad, but as you start the session, it really gets intense and feel your working out. When you reach the last pose, you'll be so relieved that you completed all of the poses. You'll begin...

Start. 2016. Running.

As this year comes to a close, I'm reflecting on the many accomplishments, contributions, and challenges I've undertaken to help others. For that, I've decided to run in the San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon San Francisco, CA on April 3, 2016 as a St. I start hard core training soon! Join me on this continuing journey to help others. Sincerely, Edgar Running. Fundraising. The San Francisco Half Marathon July 2015

From expo event, early morning start time, run, and finish line; all worth it! San Francisco Marathon Results: http://www.runraceresults.com/Secure/RaceResults.cfm?ID=RCLF2015

Fundraising. Connects. Community.

As some of you know, I'm an avid runner and enjoy keeping myself healthy. However, on the other aspect of my running, I like to use my runs to help contribute to fundraising for important causes and organizations. This year, I'm fundraising for two. Living in the San Francisco bay area we at times take things for granted. Little do we notice the less fortunate are struggling for basic day to day needs like food and good healthcare. We tend to be insulated. I'd like to reach out to you and ask you to join me in supporting these organizations that engages us to connect with our community's needs. On my end, I'll be running in the San Francisco Giant Race 10K [6.2 miles] on Sunday, August 23rd to help benefit PROJECT OPEN HAND. Project Open Hand depends on the support of generous people in their efforts to provide their mission of meals with love for the sick and elderly a reality. With your generous help, they will continue nourishing some of the neediest ...

The San Francisco Half Marathon 2014 Registration Confirmation - I Made a Committment!

Ok. It's official, I decided to train for a marathon, well half at least. But today, as I start my 3-4 week run, a huge rain storm is coming into the bay area. http://www.thesfmarathon.com/the-races/second-half-marathon / The 2nd Half Marathon covers the second half of The San Francisco Marathon. The race starts at Spreckel’s Lake in Golden Gate Park and finishes on the Embarcadero alongside the Main Marathon Finish Line. It passes through Haight/Ashbury, the Mission District, into Mission Bay, and passes AT&T Park, finishing just before the Ferry Building alongside the Main Marathon Finish Line. The course is USATF certified and is a Boston Marathon qualifying race.

Support my @GiantRace fundraising campaign for @ProjectOpenHand

I am registered for The Giant Race Half Marathon/10K/5K on August 23, 2015 and I am fundraising for Project Open Hand , a nonprofit organization that provides nourishing meals and groceries to some of the most vulnerable individuals living in our community. I invite you to help me raise critical funds for Project Open Hand so they can continue to feed our neighbors who are ill and often lonely. For every $2 you donate, Project Open Hand will provide a nutritious meal for someone in need.   I'm engaging in a year of fundraising efforts. Why? One, it's a year I turned 50 years old. I'm very fortunate that I have my health, love, family, and friends with me. Each entity has shaped my efforts to go after things I never would have even touched or entertained. But I did it. Second, each fundraising cause there is a story behind it. Either a friend or situation touched me to really be reflective of my effort to help. Finally, my ability to simply touch or af...
