Central Park Half Marathon - New York, NY - February 27, 2023

The last time I ran a half marathon race was in 2016. At that time, I managed to finish the half marathon in 2 hours and 8 minutes. Along with my friend, Tedd, we finished respectively for our age group and among overall participants.  However, in 2022, I dealt with the tail end of the Covid-19 pandemic. I may have in fact still been suffering from the effects of the infection, as I did not run as well as I had hoped. This race was tough on my body and on my breathing. I had to stop a few times and it was miserable and frustrating at the same time. I was training up to this event but apparently not as well as I hoped.  I hope well into 2023, I can rally and do better than this past year's time of 2 hours and 36 minutes. Off by more than 25 minutes!  Tedd: Ahead of me, in the neon yellow jacket Edgar: Burgundy shorts in the back Finishers!

Hapalua Half Marathon - Waikiki Beach, Hawaii 2016

I would have to say this running event wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. On the previous week, I completed a San Francisco Half Marathon. Time: 2:08. Ironically, I complete this recent run here in Waikiki by the same time. Who would have thought? The process to train for a running event is never an easy feat. But if you want to finish a run respectively, you've gotta train. The good thing is that I was in good company to be motivated. I had a friend join me in a run and it was much easier than doing it alone. A couple of days before the actual run, we both did a trial run along the elevated route to see how it was looking. It wasn't as bad. At times, you had to really begin to process the length of the race and time. Overall, the weekend festivities that lead up to this event was really fun. From the expo registration to the starting line, it was really festive! Surprisingly. Next run? Not sure what is up; I need to be ready for the next choice as training an...

All the training has paid off

Yesterday, I completed the 2016 Transamerica Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon San Francisco. Along with 9,000 + runners, I managed to cross the finish line at under 2 hours and 15 minutes for 13.1 miles. I've done a few of these runs in the past but this one was really a challenge. One was my extra training to complete a run that would span over 13 miles in cold San Francisco and my concerted effort to help fund raise on behalf of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I want to thank everyone who donated to my cause and for those of you who have not, there is still time. I find this to be an important organization to help fund. I was glad to be a part of it; join me on my efforts. Running. Fundraising. Purpose. Donate: http://heroes.stjude.org/donatetoday4edgar Half Marathon Results

Transamerica San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon 2016

I'm competing in the San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. I want to help make sure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude, but I need your support to help me reach my fundraising goal. It costs $2 million a day to operate St. Jude. Did you know that 70% of the funds come from the public? That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help! A mere $500 will help me reach my goal! Please visit my St. Jude Heroes fundraising page to make a donation. Thank you for your support! http://heroes.stjude.org/donatetoday4edgar Sincerely, Edgar Running. Fundraising. Purpose.

A Decision to Start Running

Back in the the late 1990s' I was really unhealthy. I "ran" to work, worked long hours, took on an extra job to be financially "caught up". But after awhile, it took it's toll; I wasn't able to balance a social or get to have a social life. I felt I was late in the game. So, I realized I had to settle on two things; one get back in shape and two, decide to get into my own social world (in the meantime). Luckily, I lived near a lake and always wanted to be in an outdoor setting, besides I hated being in a gym. Seeing all that sweat, no thank you. I rather look to smelling fresh air and really being in a zone for health. My first step started with a pair of tennis shoes. The shoes would do until I had enough money to get a decent pair of running shoes. My first lap around the lake was tough. It was about 5 miles. After awhile, it got easier as I lost some weight; less carrying around the lake of course. There would be rough patches through my start o...

Half Marathon. Training. Starts.

In 2016, I will embark on a couple of running events in April. I will start training for the following half marathons; "The Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon San Francisco affords runners that unique opportunity to run across the Golden Gate Bridge followed by a tour of the picturesque Bay Area and up and down its hilly terrain – through stunning neighborhoods and waterfront property. With unique historic city architecture and cultural diversity, this event is a fan favorite and it is the truest of destination cities." This run is scheduled for Sunday, April 3rd. This will once again be a fundraising running event to support and run as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. My goal is to reach $500 for this notable and worthwhile cause. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital The following Sunday, I will be running The Hapalua - Hawaii's Half Marathon on April 10th. In the next 80 days, I wi...

Start. 2016. Running.

As this year comes to a close, I'm reflecting on the many accomplishments, contributions, and challenges I've undertaken to help others. For that, I've decided to run in the San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon San Francisco, CA on April 3, 2016 as a St. I start hard core training soon! Join me on this continuing journey to help others. Sincerely, Edgar Running. Fundraising. Running. Fundraising. Purpose.

I'm at it again. I'm training to complete another half marathon, 13.1 miles in the upcoming San Francisco Marathon. While I'm preparing for the run, I'm also encouraging others to either join me in the run or help fund raise for a San Francisco neighborhood-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform the community and youth through the MAGIC of collaboration. MAGIC was founded in 2004 by the SF Public Defender’s Office to address San Francisco communities plagued by poverty and violence. Through forming partnerships with community residents, faith based organizations, local government, nonprofit organizations, schools and other foundations, awareness and participation in the struggle for self-determination and a just community was raised. http://momagic.org/about/ Running. Edgar is Running 13.1 Miles to Fund Raise for Shanti Project

Dear Friends and Family: I am writing to tell you about two important challenges I am taking on in 2014. I am training to run The San Franciso Second Half-Marathon as a member of Team Shanti to support San Francisco's underserved HIV/AIDS and breast cancer communities. And, as a Team Shanti runner, I am committed to raising a minimum of $500 bucks for Shanti. I’d like you to know why both running and fundraising are important to me. First, the physical challenge (of course) of a long marathon is something I hope to continue to take on and finish. But with current training, discipline and the limitless support of Shanti, I see the goal is within reach. I am truly blessed with good health and great support toward achieving this goal, unlike the clients Shanti serves. You know I love to volunteer in any way I can. And through my volunteering I have come to respect the Shanti commitment to the needs of our community members living with HIV/AIDS or breast cancer. Shanti focuse...

~ My 1st Running Event of the Year! 2014 Kaiser Permanente San Francisco 5K ~

Every year, I take the time to include this run - sort of a kick off to start the new year intent on continuing to be in good health and personal motivation. But I'm such a slow runner these days. It could be that this year's run was raining. It hasn't happened in a while but I can't use weather as an excuse. I've ran in the rain before minus thousands of people crowded around me. To kick off the year, my time was really slow on this particular run. In year's past, I've run this same running event a few half marathons or relegate to the 5K just in case I may not finish. This event is usually a springboard to my other runs into the new year. This year however, I'm considering finishing a half marathon to celebrate my ability to do it and with a good finishing time. In the case of running full marathons in the past, I finish a full, then I'm done, there's no zip to my step and I can't go anywhere but hop into bed and nap that afternoo...
