All the training has paid off

Yesterday, I completed the 2016 Transamerica Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon San Francisco. Along with 9,000 + runners, I managed to cross the finish line at under 2 hours and 15 minutes for 13.1 miles. I've done a few of these runs in the past but this one was really a challenge. One was my extra training to complete a run that would span over 13 miles in cold San Francisco and my concerted effort to help fund raise on behalf of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I want to thank everyone who donated to my cause and for those of you who have not, there is still time. I find this to be an important organization to help fund. I was glad to be a part of it; join me on my efforts. Running. Fundraising. Purpose. Donate: http://heroes.stjude.org/donatetoday4edgar Half Marathon Results

A Decision to Start Running

Back in the the late 1990s' I was really unhealthy. I "ran" to work, worked long hours, took on an extra job to be financially "caught up". But after awhile, it took it's toll; I wasn't able to balance a social or get to have a social life. I felt I was late in the game. So, I realized I had to settle on two things; one get back in shape and two, decide to get into my own social world (in the meantime). Luckily, I lived near a lake and always wanted to be in an outdoor setting, besides I hated being in a gym. Seeing all that sweat, no thank you. I rather look to smelling fresh air and really being in a zone for health. My first step started with a pair of tennis shoes. The shoes would do until I had enough money to get a decent pair of running shoes. My first lap around the lake was tough. It was about 5 miles. After awhile, it got easier as I lost some weight; less carrying around the lake of course. There would be rough patches through my start o...

Edgar is Running 13.1 Miles to Fund Raise for Shanti Project

Dear Friends and Family: I am writing to tell you about two important challenges I am taking on in 2014. I am training to run The San Franciso Second Half-Marathon as a member of Team Shanti to support San Francisco's underserved HIV/AIDS and breast cancer communities. And, as a Team Shanti runner, I am committed to raising a minimum of $500 bucks for Shanti. I’d like you to know why both running and fundraising are important to me. First, the physical challenge (of course) of a long marathon is something I hope to continue to take on and finish. But with current training, discipline and the limitless support of Shanti, I see the goal is within reach. I am truly blessed with good health and great support toward achieving this goal, unlike the clients Shanti serves. You know I love to volunteer in any way I can. And through my volunteering I have come to respect the Shanti commitment to the needs of our community members living with HIV/AIDS or breast cancer. Shanti focuse...

The Inaugural Berkeley 10 Kilometer 2013 ~ My Last Running Event of the Year!

The Inaugural Berkeley 10 Kilometer 2013 This 10 Kilometer point-to-point race route was created to show off Berkeley’s favorite spots – from the city center to the UC Berkeley Campus and the beautiful waterfront and marina, this 10 Kilometer race will not disappoint. The route is flat, fast, and net-downhill, so it’s perfect for a new PR or tune-up before your next big event. The Course The race starts at Civic Center Park, wraps around the west side of the UC Berkeley Campus, and then continues straight through the heart of Berkeley on University Avenue, passing local shops and parks on the way to the marina. At mile 4, the course turns south along the waterfront, along the Berkeley Marina, turns around to head north to Cesar Chavez Park, exposing breathtaking sights of the SF skyline and the bay. Finally, the route continues north for a finish and celebration at Golden Gate Fields. There are 1.5 miles of dirt/gravel course. The Start Martin Luther King Jr. Civi...
