The Inaugural Berkeley 10 Kilometer 2013
This 10 Kilometer point-to-point race route was created to show off Berkeley’s favorite spots – from the city center to the UC Berkeley Campus and the beautiful waterfront and marina, this 10 Kilometer race will not disappoint. The route is flat, fast, and net-downhill, so it’s perfect for a new PR or tune-up before your next big event.
The Course
The race starts at Civic Center Park, wraps around the west side of the UC Berkeley Campus, and then continues straight through the heart of Berkeley on University Avenue, passing local shops and parks on the way to the marina. At mile 4, the course turns south along the waterfront, along the Berkeley Marina, turns around to head north to Cesar Chavez Park, exposing breathtaking sights of the SF skyline and the bay. Finally, the route continues north for a finish and celebration at Golden Gate Fields.
There are 1.5 miles of dirt/gravel course.

My personal experience in this race is one of uniqueness and calmness. The usual band, loud cheers were gradual. It was an intimate race with less than maybe 5,000 runners. Weather was nice in the Berkeley area, say about 55-65 degrees instead of the forecast of 45-60.
The course was actually not bad except the last mile where we were all greeted with an incline hill before seeing the finish line in the marina. The view prior to finishing was breathtaking. The San Francisco bay area backdrop is always special with the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance and the new Eastern Span bridge into the City of San Francisco. My finish was pretty respectable for someone who has trained in a long time. What does 2014 offer? Finish another Half Marathon?
