Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Half Marathon | 10k | 5K 2/5/2023

Every year when I run this event, it just amazes me that I can finish, whether it's rain or shine, motivated or not, I seem to find a way to finish something I started.  Over the years depending on my health or motivation, I would run either a  5K, or 10K, or of course the half marathon. This year, I ran the 10K,  or 6.2 miles. The training leading up to this event was minimal but focused. This year, for the first time it rained at the start of the race. It was cold, but I was prepared to do a descent run at this year's 10K.  When I start my run, I always reminded myself to "stay in your lane", forget the people who lined up behind me are playing catch up because they were late or in the wrong pace lane. Or people chatting away while running. I made sure not to get discouraged if I'm the last one in the sea of runners trying to be one up on each other. I try to be in a Zen mode. Although I do miss running along with others, but I get a good feeling of running by m...

Across The Bay 12K Run - August 28, 2022

Just ran over the Golden Gate Bridge!  This run was pretty fun. It's a run from Sausalito cross the Golden Gate Bridge and finish in the Aquatics Park area in San Francisco. It was a cold morning, but with a group of runners all in it together it pretty much warmed things up for this 7.5 mile run.  Respectable Finish!  This was my only other run for 2022, so I felt a little better doing this run. I feel, I'm not as conditioned as I'd like to be. I don't want to make it as an excuse as I'm getting older and not trained as in years past. But I think deep down inside, I'd like to be in a better place, health wise. But as you get older, it takes longer to warm up, train differently, and recover differently. I'm sort of giving push back but in reality, I must in order to be in better shape as I age.  Overall, I finished in a good time.  Thrilled, I finished! Time to treat myself!  Clam Chowder! Delish!

It rained quite a bit in this year's annual run. Joined a friend on her second 5K. A good finish! Race Results

2018 Kaiser Permanente San Francisco 5K - 1st Run of the New Year!

After being in injury mode for almost 2 years, I decided to ease back into running. The idea was perfect timing as a friend who I encouraged to do her first official 5k run was interested. It was a perfect time of the year to start a run and also the path of the run was all flat. So, no issues or excuses, as she trained properly to complete a 3 mile run. Start Line  Doing a 5k run is a good start to anyone who wants to build on their distance running. 5k is a nice ease into other distance running levels. There is a 10k, which is about 6 miles, then the half marathon, about 13.1 miles, and of course the full marathon, 26.2 miles. In order to get to complete these races/runs, you'll definitely have to do the following: PROPER TRAINING  If your a beginner, you'll need to measure your capacity to see how far you can run without stopping or if you decide to do a run and walk strategy, you'll need to see what works for your body. In my case, when I started running, it w...

Running Injury Takes Its Toll

This year has been a remarkable running year. As I trained late last year up to the beginning of April of this year, I've had nothing but free reign to push myself to go the distance. First, it was participating in a great running event in Honolulu, Hawaii in April with a good friend of mine to being accepted into a very prestigious bay area trail run in Mill Valley, California in June. But as I wind down to ease up on my running events and weekly routine runs, out of no where comes a very painful right heel that has prevented me from doing any serious runs. I tried running with the pain thinking it would go away but to no avail. Tedd and I at the Hapalua Half Marathon Expo Event Honolulu, Hawaii, April 2016 Dipsea Run , Mill Valley, June 2016 I went ahead and made an appointment to see a podiatrist, only to hear him say, just don't take the stairs at work for awhile and ease up on your distance running. Oh, and also, he says, do some stretching to alleviate t...

All the training has paid off

Yesterday, I completed the 2016 Transamerica Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon San Francisco. Along with 9,000 + runners, I managed to cross the finish line at under 2 hours and 15 minutes for 13.1 miles. I've done a few of these runs in the past but this one was really a challenge. One was my extra training to complete a run that would span over 13 miles in cold San Francisco and my concerted effort to help fund raise on behalf of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I want to thank everyone who donated to my cause and for those of you who have not, there is still time. I find this to be an important organization to help fund. I was glad to be a part of it; join me on my efforts. Running. Fundraising. Purpose. Donate: http://heroes.stjude.org/donatetoday4edgar Half Marathon Results

Transamerica San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon 2016

I'm competing in the San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. I want to help make sure that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude, but I need your support to help me reach my fundraising goal. It costs $2 million a day to operate St. Jude. Did you know that 70% of the funds come from the public? That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help! A mere $500 will help me reach my goal! Please visit my St. Jude Heroes fundraising page to make a donation. Thank you for your support! http://heroes.stjude.org/donatetoday4edgar Sincerely, Edgar Running. Fundraising. Purpose.

A Decision to Start Running

Back in the the late 1990s' I was really unhealthy. I "ran" to work, worked long hours, took on an extra job to be financially "caught up". But after awhile, it took it's toll; I wasn't able to balance a social or get to have a social life. I felt I was late in the game. So, I realized I had to settle on two things; one get back in shape and two, decide to get into my own social world (in the meantime). Luckily, I lived near a lake and always wanted to be in an outdoor setting, besides I hated being in a gym. Seeing all that sweat, no thank you. I rather look to smelling fresh air and really being in a zone for health. My first step started with a pair of tennis shoes. The shoes would do until I had enough money to get a decent pair of running shoes. My first lap around the lake was tough. It was about 5 miles. After awhile, it got easier as I lost some weight; less carrying around the lake of course. There would be rough patches through my start o...

Half Marathon. Training. Starts.

In 2016, I will embark on a couple of running events in April. I will start training for the following half marathons; "The Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon San Francisco affords runners that unique opportunity to run across the Golden Gate Bridge followed by a tour of the picturesque Bay Area and up and down its hilly terrain – through stunning neighborhoods and waterfront property. With unique historic city architecture and cultural diversity, this event is a fan favorite and it is the truest of destination cities." This run is scheduled for Sunday, April 3rd. This will once again be a fundraising running event to support and run as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. My goal is to reach $500 for this notable and worthwhile cause. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital The following Sunday, I will be running The Hapalua - Hawaii's Half Marathon on April 10th. In the next 80 days, I wi...

Start. 2016. Running.

As this year comes to a close, I'm reflecting on the many accomplishments, contributions, and challenges I've undertaken to help others. For that, I've decided to run in the San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon San Francisco, CA on April 3, 2016 as a St. I start hard core training soon! Join me on this continuing journey to help others. Sincerely, Edgar Running. Fundraising. Fundraising. Connects. Community.

As some of you know, I'm an avid runner and enjoy keeping myself healthy. However, on the other aspect of my running, I like to use my runs to help contribute to fundraising for important causes and organizations. This year, I'm fundraising for two. Living in the San Francisco bay area we at times take things for granted. Little do we notice the less fortunate are struggling for basic day to day needs like food and good healthcare. We tend to be insulated. I'd like to reach out to you and ask you to join me in supporting these organizations that engages us to connect with our community's needs. On my end, I'll be running in the San Francisco Giant Race 10K [6.2 miles] on Sunday, August 23rd to help benefit PROJECT OPEN HAND. Project Open Hand depends on the support of generous people in their efforts to provide their mission of meals with love for the sick and elderly a reality. With your generous help, they will continue nourishing some of the neediest ...

Return to Bay to Breakers Run 2015

I haven't ran the largest footrace in the world in years, however, I was able to convince a friend to join me for this fun run! Weather was ideal for running from the bay bridge to the break of Ocean Beach. Finish in just over an hour, but with the added stops and enjoyment of the run, it was actually over an hour and a half.
