This year has been a remarkable running year. As I trained late last year up to the beginning of April of this year, I've had nothing but free reign to push myself to go the distance.
First, it was participating in a great running event in Honolulu, Hawaii in April with a good friend of mine to being accepted into a very prestigious bay area trail run in Mill Valley, California in June. But as I wind down to ease up on my running events and weekly routine runs, out of no where comes a very painful right heel that has prevented me from doing any serious runs. I tried running with the pain thinking it would go away but to no avail.
I went ahead and made an appointment to see a podiatrist, only to hear him say, just don't take the stairs at work for awhile and ease up on your distance running. Oh, and also, he says, do some stretching to alleviate the pain, as well as get some health support pads to put in your shoes. Okay? It's been over 2 months and I feel no where cleared for running, what gives?
Here's my take, one I may have over trained, and two, I'm older. As you get older, it takes longer to recover. I hope to get myself in better shape for the year is out. I love to run as it really takes my mind off of work, the craziness of life, drama, you name it. Just me and my wireless headset tuned into Pandora music station.
I'm giving it another month and see if I can get out there by Thanksgiving. I'd like to do a local Thanksgiving Turkey Trot run. These runs are shorter distances but will help restart my passion for running.
Let's see how it goes.
Never. Stop. Running.
